Petra

We were referred to this 84-year-old downtown resident by a social worker with Jewish Family Services. Petra is a Holocaust survivor who fled to Argentina before emigrating to the United States.

She’s battling a variety of health problems which require frequent doctor visits. Additionally, she has limited mobility and depends on a walker to ambulate making it difficult to pick up groceries and run routine errands.

We provide transportation and accompany her on many medical visits and errands which enable her to continue living independently. She has a son in Indianapolis, but he has health issues of his own which limit his ability to care for her.

Family members are not always available or may have health issues of their own.

Like many seniors living downtown, her income is more than the threshold to qualify for county assistance programs, but not enough to afford private duty care. In order to save money, we helped her find a more affordable apartment through the local housing commission and also assisted with the move. We’re happy to remain a key resource for Petra so that she may continue thriving downtown San Diego.
